Keeping a toddler entertained can be an extremely difficult task. And you can try buying tons of fancy toys but those won’t keep them busy anymore than an empty box would.
It can be quite a task to keep them busy and sometimes… ain’t body got time for that!
As a work from home mom, it became essential for me to find acititives for toddlers to do at home so that mama could get a little work done.
Even if you’re not a work from home mom, there might be moments where you just need to keep those little cuties busy. For your own sanity! You know, so you can cook dinner, do some laundry or even just use the toilet without them bugging you (keep dreaming!).

As far as household items, it’s always good to make sure you have white rice, saran wrap, plastic zip-lock baggies, pipe cleaners. You do a lot with these basic items!
Fun and Easy Toddler Activities For Home
Get ready to enjoy some free time! (Even if it is only for a few minutes). These fun activities are sure token your toddler entrained and even help their sensory and motor skills. If you are looking for ways to keep toddlers busy… this is for you!
Toddler Painting Activities
- Painting in a bag. Have a toddler who loves using paints but you’re getting sick of the mess? Try painting in a bag! You can use it to make a muddy truck mess like this tutorial. Or even just mix some colors in the bag and let your child make their own squish painting.
- Paint with water and cotton balls. Here’s another painting project that won’t make a mess! Use cotton balls to ‘paint’ water on construction paper. Even if they make a mess, it’ll eventually dry.
- Shake paint in a jar. Use an old plastic jar (peanut butter works great) and add a few glops of paint to the bottom. Add a few dried beans. Add some card stock. Shake it up and your toddler just made a masterpiece!
Toddler Play-Doh Activities
- Make Play-Doh Bug Fossils. roll out some play-doh and have your child take small plastic bugs (or any animal!) and press them into the play-doh to make their own fossils.
- Small animal dig. Instead of them making fossils, you can bury small dinosaurs int he play-doh and have your toddler dig them out with small tools.
- Play-Doh creation station. You can create a creation station with several objects to push or smash into play-doh.
- Make Play-Doh face. Use a clear glass or plastic bowl upside down and have your child create their own funny faces out of the play-doh. The nice thing is they can do this over and over as many times as they want!
- Play-Doh letter recognition. Use plastic letters to have your toddler start learning words or even how to spell their own name.
Activities With Kinetic Sand
- Make a Mr. Potato Head. Use some brown kinetic sand and some Mr. Potato Head parts to put together their own version. They will love the squishiness of the sand versus the hard plastic of the original Mr. Potato Head.
- Practice writing letters and numbers. Use a box of kinetic sand and a small took to write letters and numbers. It’s easy to erase and start over!
- Play at the beach. Use regular brown kinetic sand and some blue sand to create a little beach oasis they can just sit and play at.
- Play with dinosaur eggs. Bury little plastic dinosaurs in easter eggs and have your toddler dig them out and find them! Then have them be the one to bury the dinosaurs.

- Make a PomPom Tumble Drop. With some simple pompoms and a few empty toilet paper rolls, you can create this fun game that will keep toddlers entertained!

- Wooden blocks match. Trace wooden blocks or any object, really. Have your child place the objects in the correct spots.
